Meet our Educator

Chana Karna Blugrind

Early Childhood Education has been her passion since 1997. She has completed her Bachelor's in ECE/Special Education and worked in Denmark, Canada, NY and CA. Chana recently completed a fellowship with The First 36 Project, a program of the Simms/Mann Institute in partnership with BJE and the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, combines tried and tested theories of early childhood development with cutting-edge research in early childhood learning and brain sciences to nurture meaningful relationships and foster resilience in future generations. She is currently studying to receive her MAEd in Early Childhood through the American Jewish University.

From Chana:
I believe that children should be encouraged to play and explore the majority of the day while the educators support their learning by posing open ended questions and setting up an inviting and stimulating environment that provokes questions, thoughts, ideas, innovations and sparks the imagination.

It is my goal to help revolutionize the American educational system starting in Early Childhood Education so we can raise a generation of emotionally strong, productive and innovative leaders that will dare take risks.

The First 36 Project
Our school is a proud participant of The First 36 Project, a ground-breaking program developed by the Simms/Mann Institute, BJE (Builders of Jewish Education), and The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles.  The First 36 Project provides Parent & Me facilitators with an exclusive professional development program designed to enhance their knowledge and amplify their ability to support parents of children ages 0-3.  The Fellows gain access to resources developed by the Simms/Mann Institute including:  a guide integrating child development theory with the most cutting-edge neuroscience research; participation in the Simms/Mann Institute Think Tank, with leading neuroscientists from around the world presenting their research in early childhood development; and access to exclusive video presentations from leading early childhood experts.  In addition, Fellows participate in monthly content sessions facilitated by a child development expert, receive one-on-one coaching, and support each other in their community of practice by sharing ideas and learning from one another.

Parent & Me Voucher Program

The Jewish Federation has created a program, run by BJE, to use vouchers as a means for helping Jewish families begin their Jewish journey. This program will provide cash vouchers for Jewish families enrolling a child for the first time in a Parent & Me program in any participating BJE-affiliated early childhood center.

How does it work?

BJE will pay 50% of the fee for a Parent & Me session (a subsidy up to a maximum of $300). The program sponsor will cover an additional 20% and the family will only pay 30% of the cost of the tuition for their first session of the Parent & Me program.

Applicants can apply online and will select the program they wish to participate in. After they choose the program, the family will receive a voucher that they will bring to the program when they enroll. Participating programs will be then be reimbursed for the vouchers they receive from enrolled participants.

Who is eligible for vouchers?

The Federation Voucher program is specifically for families who have not yet enrolled in any Jewish program with their child. You are eligible for this voucher if this is your first time enrolling in a Jewish Parent & Me program.

Which programs are participating?

Jewish Parent & Me programs in BJE-affiliated early childhood centers can choose to participate in this program. Please check with the program you are interested in to be sure they have signed up to participate.  The Los Angeles-area schools that are currently participating in the Federation Voucher Program are:
