Parent & Me Classes

Our Baby and Toddler & Me class educator facilitates learning experiences for parents and children ages 0-28 months, through integrating child development theory with integrated activities. Sessions include activities, snack, parent-to-parent connections, and parent education discussions designed to build caregivers knowledge and confidence to create meaningful relationships with their child.

Meet our Educators

Katie Kang
Director of Early Childhood Education

Katie Kang, mother of two (Mason who is 7 years old and Sophia who is 5 years old) was locally born and raised here at Temple Menorah. She completed her Bachelor's Degree in Education and teaching credential from California State University, Long Beach along with a minor in Mathematics. Katie spent her summers in high school and college working as a camp counselor at Camp Menorah, eventually becoming the camp's director. She worked for Tuvia as a teacher and assistant director. In addition, she spent her Sundays teaching Kindergarten Sunday School for Temple Menorah's Religious School. Following her 10 years plus on the Temple Menorah faculty she continued to work with the community as the Youth Programs and Seminar Coordinator for The Volunteer Center, South Bay-Harbor-Long Beach, and as the Regional Director of Volunteer and Youth Services for the American Red Cross, Los Angeles.

In the summer of 2014 she opened her own home daycare in order to raiser her daughter at home. She found her way back to the Temple Menorah faculty in the summer of 2015 as the Operations Manager. In 2018 she wsa afforded the opportunity to rejoin the Tuvia faculty and is working towards her MAEd in Early Childhood at American Jewish University.

Morah and Program Coordinator

Shalom! My name is Cilia Hernandez! I’ve been teaching for fifteen years. I've been with Tuvia of Temple Menorah for two year and four months. I have over forty-two units in Early Childhood Education. We are going to have a blast getting messy and dirty together this year!

I enjoy reading Harry Potter books, I love making felt stories and my favorite colors are red and black.

Parent & Me Voucher Program

The Jewish Federation has created a program, run by BJE, to use vouchers as a means for helping Jewish families begin their Jewish journey. This program will provide cash vouchers for Jewish families enrolling a child for the first time in a Parent & Me program in any participating BJE-affiliated early childhood center.

How does it work?

BJE will pay 50% of the fee for a Parent & Me session (a subsidy up to a maximum of $300). The program sponsor will cover an additional 20% and the family will only pay 30% of the cost of the tuition for their first session of the Parent & Me program.

Applicants can apply online and will select the program they wish to participate in. After they choose the program, the family will receive a voucher that they will bring to the program when they enroll. Participating programs will be then be reimbursed for the vouchers they receive from enrolled participants.

Who is eligible for vouchers?

The Federation Voucher program is specifically for families who have not yet enrolled in any Jewish program with their child. You are eligible for this voucher if this is your first time enrolling in a Jewish Parent & Me program.

Which programs are participating?

Jewish Parent & Me programs in BJE-affiliated early childhood centers can choose to participate in this program. Please check with the program you are interested in to be sure they have signed up to participate. After the first session, do the families pay full price?

Federation vouchers will also cover 25% of the second session (up to a maximum of $150). Families are responsible for paying the full amount for any subsequent Parent & Me sessions after their second course.
